DICK CURREY
Attorney Dick Currey focuses on the areas of estate
planning and administration. A 1972 alumnus of Mishawaka High School, Dick
received his B.A. in philosophy from Wabash College (1976) and graduated Phi
Beta Kappa, summa cum laude. He went on to earn his J.D. (magna cum laude) from
the Indiana University Law School in 1979. He practiced a wide range of law
with his father, Robert S. Currey,
before partnering in 2008 with attorney James J. Olson. The pair continued a
law firm started by John Schindler Sr. in 1909 that now operates as Schindler,
Olson, Currey & Dendiu. Dick is heavily invested in the local community. He
began his civic work for Mishawaka during Mayor Bob Kovach's administration,
representing the city's Utility and Planning. He currently serves as
Mishawaka’s Code Enforcement Hearing Officer and an attorney to the
Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library (a position he's held for more than 30
years). He's also on the boards of the Community Foundation of St. Joseph
County and Mishawaka Lions Club.
Dick is a former multi-term member of several
other boards, including the School City of Mishawaka's Board of Trustees,
Mishawaka Education Foundation, Mishawaka Business Association, South Bend
Civic Theatre, and the River Bend Camp Fire Council. Dick enjoys spending time
with his family, reading, gardening, cooking, and traveling.
JOEL DENDIU
For most of the last 23 years, Attorney Joel
Dendiu has called the city of Mishawaka home. From student at historic Beiger
Middle School to Mishawaka High School valedictorian to Bethel University summa
cum laude graduate, many of his roots have been planted in this community. Upon
completing undergraduate studies, Joel married his high school sweetheart and
moved west to further his education. But the pull of home wouldn't let him stay
away for long. He obtained a Master's degree in philosophy from Arizona State
University before deciding to pursue a law career -- a decision that brought
him back to Michiana. Joel accepted an invitation in 2010 to The Law School at
Notre Dame. He earned his J.D. three years later, finishing in the top 5% of
his class. Shortly thereafter, he was hired by world-renowned Chicago firm Jenner
& Block. He spent 10 months working alongside some of the best lawyers in
the country on numerous projects, including the report that was presented to
Congress during its investigation into faulty General Motors ignition switches.
The corporate setting didn’t suit Joel, however, leading him to again seek
opportunities closer to home. He returned to Mishawaka in 2014 and joined
Elkhart-based Thorne Grodnik, LLP as a full-time associate. This position
afforded Joel additional experience in various areas of litigation and
bolstered his confidence about ultimately branching out on his own. Joel lives in Mishawaka with his wife Jamie,
their three children, and pet cat and dog. When not in the office or a
courtroom, he enjoys time with family, playing various sports (tennis, golf,
basketball, pickleball, and volleyball) and ballroom dancing.
