For most of the last 18 years, Joel Dendiu has called the city of Mishawaka home. From student at historic Beiger Middle School to Mishawaka High School valedictorian to summa cum laude graduate of Bethel College, many of his roots have been planted in this community.
Upon completing undergraduate studies, Joel married his high school sweetheart and moved west to further his education. But the pull of home wouldn’t let him stay away for long. He obtained a Master’s degree in philosophy from Arizona State University before deciding to pursue a legal career — a decision that brought him back to Michiana.
Joel accepted an invitation to The Law School at Notre Dame in 2010. He earned his J.D. three years later, finishing in the top 5% of his class. Shortly thereafter, he was hired by world-renowned Chicago firm Jenner & Block. He spent 10 months working alongside some of the best lawyers in the country and assisted on numerous projects, including the report that was presented to Congress during its investigation into faulty General Motors ignition switches.
The corporate setting didn’t suit Joel, however, leading him to again seek opportunities closer to home. He returned to Mishawaka in 2014 and joined Elkhart-based Thorne Grodnik, LLP as a full-time associate. This position afforded Joel additional experience in various areas of litigation and bolstered his confidence about ultimately branching out on his own.
Joel lives in Mishawaka with his wife Jamie, their three children, and pet cat and dog. When not in the office or a courtroom, he enjoys time with family, playing tennis, golf and basketball, and ballroom dancing.
